International Twilight Day: Dinner and a Movie

July 21st, 2009 by Mike

Edward and Bella having dinner. So I realize not all of you Twilighters are teenagers or serious partiers, so with you guys in mind I thought I’d tone it down a bit and give you a few ideas that would allow you to enjoy an intimate evening with a few close friends or your significant other on International Twilight Day.

Throughout the Twilight book as well as the film there are a significant number of references made to various meals that were eaten. So tomorrow evening if you’re looking for a quiet night in, here are a few meals you can serve up that are Twilight related that would be a perfect pairing with the Twilight DVD.

Steak and Potatoes – The first dinner Bella cooks for Charlie when she arrives in Forks. Food & Wine did a Twilight meal series and offered this Strip Steak with Sweet Potato Hash Browns recipe.

Chicken Enchiladas – Another one of Bella’s home cooked meals, chicken enchiladas were the food of choice the night Bella spent her evening thinking of Edward Cullen. The second recipe in the Food & Wine series is for Chicken & Cheese Enchiladas Verdes

Lasagna – The hearty Italian meal that Bella prepares the night before the infamous day in the meadow. It also makes for a decent leftover for lunch the following day. Check out Food & Wine’s Lasagna-Style Baked Pennette with Meat Sauce as an alternative to traditional lasagna.

Mushroom Ravioli – The vegetarian pasta dish that Bella orders in both the Twilight book while at La Bella Italia and in the Twilight movie at The Bloated Toad. I probably have a mushroom ravioli recipe in a giant vegetarian cookbook I own, but I don’t know where it is. However, Martha Stewart offers a pretty good sounding version of mushroom ravioli on her site.

If you’re looking for a meal that takes a little bit less work, or even no work at all, here are some more simple food-fares to pick from:

Grilled Cheese Sandwiches – Bella quickly grills up some of these for Charlie, Billy, and Jacob when they come over to watch baseball on Charlie’s big screen. You can spruce up this simple meal with the three cheese variation from the Food & Wine Twilight series.

Veggie Burger – The infamous veggie burger from the Twilight film which many felt was simply a veggie overkill is also another quick and easy dinner option. Simply pick up your favorite veggie patties and some buns from the store and you’ve got a quick and easy dinner option. Add a side of spinach salad to the meal and you’ve got yourself both of Bella’s big screen meals all in one!

If you’re more interested in the no-cook options sandwiches make a cameo in the Twilight book both on the trip to La Push and for Charlie when Bella goes to Port Angeles. If you’d rather put no effort into it at all, order in some pizza and enjoy the main course of the giant lunch purchased for Bella by Edward during their second day sitting together in the school cafeteria.

After dinner you can end the night watching the Twilight DVD served up with a side of these Twilight inspired snacks.

Red Licorice – Seen throughout the Twilight film a box of red licorice is the perfect accompaniment to any movie.

Celery Sticks – A healthy snack to much on during the film and apparently an item worth thieving from Jessica in the Twilight film. Pair it with some yogurt and you have Bella’s complete meal from the cafeteria scene.

If you’re having a smaller get together with maybe a few close Twilight fans you can one up the celery sticks and pick up a veggie platter on your way home and share that while watching Twilight. You might recall that the veggie platter was Stephenie Meyer’s order during her cameo appearance in Twilight.

Regardless of how you spend your International Twilight Day, be it partying enjoying some Twilight themed snacks, getting drunk during the Twilight Drinking Game, playing Twilight games with a group of friends, or spending an intimate night in with a few close friends or your significant other we hope you have fun celebrating both a rare astrological event and your favorite sparkling vampires!

Ah – the dinner scene in the movie is so my favorite scene. Edward looks tasty in that light. Plus much funniness (answers and CAT), Edward looks up from under his eyelashes…TWICE.

And to top it all off you have Rob’s gorgeous voice in the background. So much sexy in one scene.

PS – I enjoyed that they made her a vegetarian in the movie. :p
