On the 10th day til New Moon the twihards gave to me….
That’s right folks, its a mere 10 days until the New Moon movie opens (nine, if you’re counting down to the 19th instead because you’re horribly impatient like SOME people I know *cough*KSAN*cough*) and we decided that we would make the countdown a little more fun by providing you with an awesome list each day representing the number of days left until the premier. That’s right, everyday for the next Ten Days, there will be something new and fun here for you to check out, to tide you over until you’re sitting in that seat listening to Bella scream “JAKE!” over and over again.
So without further ado, here is our list of 10 Awesome Songs Involving Vampires
10. Dracula’s Wedding by Outkast
“Give me a chance to dance romance
Don’t run, I’m not the sun
So much at stake…… oh! bad choice of words”
I had to include this one on the list because it is so damned funny. Ya gotta love Outkast.
9. Bullet with Butterfly Wings by Smashing Pumpkins
“The world is a vampire, sent to drain
Secret destroyers, hold you up to the flames
And what do I get, for my pain?
Betrayed desires, and a piece of the game”
Great song which is sung by a guy who is very pale, has an affinity for wearing glitter, and looks like he is probably a 400 year old in disguise.
8. Building a Mystery by Sarah McLachlan
“You come out at night
That’s when the energy comes
And the dark side’s light
And the vampires roam”
So Sarah my not have meant to write a song that can be loosely tied to Edward (about a decade before he was ever dreamed up… Get it? Dreamed up?!? HA HA I slay me.. anyhoo…) but this song has bits of him all over it.
7. Vampire Heart by HIM
“Love me
Like you love the sun
Scorching the blood in my vampire heart”
If you’re not a fan of HIM, or somewhat cheesy, ballad-sounding rock, then you may not like this song. The lyrics are pretty sweet though.
6. Vampires by Strung Out
“Can’t seem to shake the loneliest curse of all
Eternity spent chasin’ what I shun
All is ghost in memory and poison in the sun”
Strung Out is an under-rated band in mainstream music. Take the time to listen to this song, its one of my favorites.
5. Devil Town by Bright Eyes
“All my friends were vampires
I didn’t know they were vampires
It turns out I was a vampire myself in the devil town”
Does this song sound like the typical slow tempo Bright Eyes song? Yes, yes it does. It’s pretty cute and catchy though.
4. Bloodletting (The Vampire Song) by Concrete Blonde
“I hear something in the shadow down the hall
Oh you where a vampire
and now I am nothing at all”
It has the traditional creepy almost-Goth vibe of what you would expect from a song about Vampires, but then you add on to that the haunting, almost bluesy vocals of Johnette Napolitano and what you have is a pretty decent song to be broody about your favorite sparkly vamp to.
3. Love Song for a Vampire by Annie Lennox
“O loneliness, O hopelessness
To search the ends of time,
For there is in all the world
No greater love than mine.”
Ok, to be honest, Annie can do no wrong in my eyes and this song is no exception. It’s slow and sultry and full of emotion and thus was used on the “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” soundtrack. The video for this song is just so cool. I would embed it here, but as is the case with most awesome music videos on YouTube, embedding has been disabled. Boo Urns.
2. Pretty People Never Lie, Vampires Never Die by I am Ghost
“Awake to the birth of an Angel, she has your eyes
And I will hide from them, don’t worry
Soon she will grow, I can’t believe this is all my fault
Yeah, soon she will grow.”
I picked this song for two reasons: One, the lyrics remind me of Edward and Bella and the birth of Renesmee. Two, I am Ghost is one of those “theme bands” that writes all of their music around a general storyline. If you guessed that the storyline involves vampires, you’d be correct. Anyway, if you haven’t heard I am Ghost before, you should check out their other stuff. Very catchy.
1. The Sharpest Lives by My Chemical Romance
“A light to burn all the empires
so bright the sun is ashamed to rise and be
in love with all of these vampires
so you can leave like the sane abandoned me”
So back in the day My Chem used to write all of their songs revolving around the idea of being a vampire, it was kind of Gerard’s thing. Now adays they have moved upward and onward to more depressing themes, but every once in a while they return to their roots to give us a little glimpse of the old theme. This song is actually on “The Black Parade” which has an entirely different feel than their previous albums, but this song is a little more like “Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge” material which makes me happy.
Now, it should be said that no song list about vampires should go without mentioning one of the greatest songs of this genre ever written. Unfortunately, this song does not mention vampires, nor is it about one. It is, however, about the most arguably famous actor to ever play one. I wouldn’t be able to look myself in the mirror if I didn’t include it anyway, so here is your sort-of, kind-of, loosely tied in reference bonus track (Hey, he does say “Oh Bella” over and over again in the song, that counts, right?):
Bela Lugosi’s Dead – Bauhaus

A couple that I love are “Closer” by Kings of Leon and “For Keeps” by The Spill Canvas. I love these two songs so much, I think they should have made the list.

Some of these are not exactly about vampires but they can be implied to how a vamp might feel.
