Paramore and the New Moon Soundtrack
Will Paramore return for the New Moon Soundtrack? I as well as my cohorts would love it if they did, but the band’s singer Hayley Williams sounds a bit less optimistic. In a recent interview Hayley told MTV, “…we’re not the ‘Twilight’ house band.” She went on to say, “I’m a fan of the series, and I think that Stephenie Meyer is a great author, and I’m excited to see the films, but we kind of did what we did for ‘Twilight,’ and I feel like it’s time to let other people, you know …”
By the sounds of it Hayley and the band are ready to put their Twilight success behind them and open the door for other bands to share the spotlight. This got me thinking of something I had mentioned previously on the Where’s Edward Twitter account about the band Jack’s Mannequin. The band has done some work with Stephenie Meyer previously and had mentioned in an interview that if given the opportunity and if things fell into place a spot on the New Moon Soundtrack would definitely be of interest to them. Assuming that New Moon film director Chris Weitz takes a similar approach to that of Catherine Hardwicke and tries to tie in artists close to the books and the author Jack’s Mannequin would be the perfect choice and I think could really carry the New Moon Soundtrack.
The Twilight soundtrack was a very eclectic collection of music which spanned genres and even decades, but Paramore brought a current sound and a face to the soundtrack that both adults and teens could enjoy. I think Jack’s Mannequin could perform a similar feat. The band has a very versatile sound which makes the band’s music appealing to a variety of audiences and age groups. Furthermore the piano work of front man Andrew McMahon is stellar and could add an amazing dynamic to a movie that is sure to be filled with a range of emotions from sorrow, to fear, anger, and more.
I previously gave a list of my New Moon Soundtrack picks using only Stephenie Meyer’s playlists as a foundation, running with the idea that Weitz would pay homage to the New Moon author’s musical tie-ins. What are your thoughts on the New Moon soundtrack? Who do you think should be featured on the New Moon soundtrack? Should Weitz carry on the tradition of Hardwicke and bring on bands already linked to the books in some way or should he start fresh?

I agree, JM would be a great asset to the New Moon soundtrack, though I am a little disappointed in Paramore’s decision. I guess, with bands, things similar to typecasting can happen, though. Career wise, it’s probably a better move.

What a shame! I do have to give Catherine Hardwick props on the way music was used in Twilight. That was incredible and certainly Paramore added much. I love Decode. It’ll be interesting to see how Chris and Catherine differ when it comes to music – especially since the theme of New Moon is so much darker.

I actually agree with Paramore’s decision. I didn’t like that they had two songs on the Twilight soundtrack either… Though the second Paramore track is one of my favs on the album… i’m kinda torn.
i agree with the band because i think that other lesser known bands should get on there. I hope that Chris sticks to the same theme, if not Steph’s playlist, at least a bunch of indy bands.
Because I swear, if even one Jonas Brothers song gets on there, i’ma scream!

I really, really, REALLY dislike Stephanie’s playlists lol.
And yea, whenever I hear that the Jonas Bros are interested I’m like, no, I’ll physically harm one of them to prevent it from happening.
No, not really, but seriously that would suck.
