Lost In Forks Game FAQ, Hints and Easter Eggs

June 28th, 2010 by Mike

We recently did a post with hints on how to solve the Lost In Forks game by Volvo.  In it we outlined some additional features and insight that many players weren’t quite aware of.  The success of the post has lead to nearly 7,000 visitors and 114 comments at the time of this writing and we couldn’t be happier.  We love that so many Twilight fans are reaching out to help each other through the Where Is Edward Cullen site, even if we did have a few jokers show up and try and spoil it.

That being said I thought I’d take a little time to answers some of the most frequently asked questions in the comments and give some answers that I don’t feel will be too revealing to the solution of the puzzle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can someone just tell me how to do it?

No. However, I am considering revealing the solution just before the game deadline, but I haven’t yet decided yet.  What are your thoughts?  Will you hate me if I do it?  Those of you who REALLY want us can hit us up on the contact form and we’ll send you the answer.

What is a tickertape?

The tickertape is the strand of streaming questions and information that trails along the bottom of the screen.  There has been some debate on the compatibility of this feature in different web browsers.  I have only been able to get this to work in Internet Explorer.

Where are the footprints?

Where is the mailbox?

There have been a handful of other questions that we simply don’t have the answer to, such as “Where are the 3 forks?” and “Where is Bella’s backpack?”

Lost In Forks Hints

Below are a handful of the less obvious Lost in Forks hints that require some serious side scrolling or a second action to make them happen.  Be sure to scroll down to the bottom of the post for the full tickertape listing as well, which can help in addition to these hints.

1.

2.3.

Feeling Victorious? The tickertape will help you on this fork as well.

Lost In Forks Easter Eggs

Below is a collection of all of the Lost in Forks easter eggs I could find.  I’m pretty sure these are all of them since I haven’t heard of any others mentioned.

This Lost In Forks easter egg gives you some insight into newborn vampires and a newborns wallpaper.

Find Riley's missing poster and turn left to find Bella's house. Sneak into her bedroom to watch a scene from Eclipse with her and Edward discussing her transition as a vampire.

Nothing to see here...unless you like a quick video of a passionate kiss between Edward and Bella in front of Jacob oh yeah, and a Jacob and Bella Wallpaper

This easter egg reveals a brief clip of Edward and Bella in the meadow

This easter egg features a video clip of some vampire and werewolf carnage.

Twilight’s Robert Pattinson Is A Real Life Dracula Descendant

June 27th, 2010 by Mike

I’m sure many of you are waiting for our next update on solving the Lost In Forks Game, and I assure you the next post is coming, but I came across this amusing tidbit this evening about our beloved Robert Pattinson.  Sure, he plays a vampire on the big screen, but after some recent digging by the folks at ancestry.com it turns out that RPatz is in fact the descendant of  Vlad III Dracula, the inspiration behind Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

Anastasia Tyler, a genealogist at Ancestry.com, recently told Reuters, “Tracing Pattinson’s family back to Vlad was difficult research, but the pieces that unraveled created the perfect accompaniment to ‘The Twilight Saga’.”  According the the report

Family history experts said Pattinson and Vlad — the Transylvania-born despot also known as Vlad the Impaler — are likely related through today’s British royal family.

Pattinson, 24, is a distant cousin of Prince William and Prince Harry on their father’s side, probably through the Pickering family who lived in northern England in the early 1500s, Ancestry.com said.

“Without any myth or magic, we find royalty and vampires lurking in Pattinson’s life — making his story just as supernatural as the one he is playing on screen,” Tyler said.

The report also mentions Emma Watson, who plays Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films.  Research finds that the silver screen wizard is related to a 16th Century woman who was accused of witchcraft.

Solving Volvo’s “Lost In Forks” Twilight Saga: Eclipse Game

June 23rd, 2010 by Mike

No, this post isn’t going to give you the answers, but it is going to give you some added insight that if you don’t know to look for you won’t be aware of.  I have been tediously attempting to find the Cullen’s humble abode all evening, but to my dismay I have yet to find it.  Hell I even wound up in the snowy mountains once and I’m not even sure how I got there.

When you visit lostinforks.com to partake in the “Lost In Forks” Eclipse game you are first prompted to enter your date of birth to verify your age.  From there you are basically given the option to  start the game or learn how to play. The problem with ‘How To Play’ is that it tells you how to navigate and not really how to play.  After a few hours of frustration I noticed the “Visitor Center” link in the upper left corner of the page and was taken to a much more informative section.

Prior to finding the Visitors Center I was flying blind, but then I discovered a handful of helpful tips on how the game is actually played and what to look for to properly navigate all of the forks in Forks.

How To Play

“You start off in the center of Forks and then have to get to the Cullen House in the shortest number of steps, by successfully navigating a series of forks. Each fork provides you with one or more clues to help you choose your path. These clues directly relate to the Twilight Saga characters and story.

It is up to you to decide what each clue means and where it might take you.

But be careful, some clues can be quite misleading.”

Interestingly enough this is somewhat true, however I didn’t find a clue at every fork in the road as they lead you to believe.  I will say this however, many of the clues are hidden or take a moment to appear.  I’ve spent the majority of the night scrolling over every inch of road just to see if it reveals anything.  It’s also helpful to magnify various items along the way for additional clues.  Another help is to make sure you move as far left or as far right as possible before deciding.  In a few instances the “clue” was outside of the bounds of the main view.

Easter Eggs

There are a handful of these that I have come across so far, but clearly I haven’t hit all of them.  So far I have uncovered the following throughout the evening:

  • The Meadow
  • Bella’s Bedroom
  • The Newborn Vampires
  • Jacob and Bella with the Quilieutes
  • La Push (seems to be nothing more than a dead end and nothing special)
  • The battle scene (again nothing more than a dead end, I only know it was the battle scene from the background music and noise)

F.A.Q.

One of the first things outlined in the FAQ is that if you get lost you should refer to the “Forks tickertape at the bottom of the screen…”.  I have tried this game in both the Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox browsers and have not found or seen anything of the sort.  This could be a compatibility issue, but I didn’t have the patience to even consider using Internet Explorer to try it.

The other thing that isn’t mention is that occasionally the direction you choose will play part of the Volvo opening sequence.  My assumption is that when this happens you have gone in the right direction.  However, these instances are not referenced anywhere on the Volvo site and therefore I cannot confirm for certain.  The other thing I’ve noticed about these is that they aren’t consistent if you restart the game, which has me wondering if the shortest path to the Cullens changes each time you play, or if these scenes simply happen at random.

Overall the game is quite fun, but getting “Lost In Forks” is actually quite easy.  I do warn you however that because it is so frustrating you are sure to obsess over conquering it, so be sure to slot a good chunk of time to play the game if you’re serious about it.  I’m serious…This game is frustrating as shit!

I will leave you with one hint for your journey. A-KA-LAT is Quilieute for “Top of the Rock” AKA James Island.

UPDATE: Just a reminder to all our readers. Please do not provide the answers in the comments. We have been asked by a number of our readers not to reveal the actual path to the Cullen’s house.  Instead feel free to provide clues, help, hints, and tips that will help our readers to solve Lost in Forks and find the shortest route. And just so you know, we made it in 11 and haven’t been able to do it in less thus far. ;)

UPDATE: Due to the success of this post we have done a more in depth post that has images of some of the hints, images of the easter eggs, and a complete list of the clues in the ticker tape! Lost In Forks Game FAQ, Hints, and Easter Eggs

UPDATE: Since the first round has concluded in the U.S. we will no be providing the solution via email anymore.  We will however continue to moderate this post and provide updated information about the game as it becomes available.  Good luck in round 2!

UPDATE: A commenter on the site has been posing as various commenters throughout 7/10/2010 and perhaps prior to this date.  We are investigating this problem further and have blocked the commenter based off of our initial findings.  We will be following up and deleting the imposter comments and making additional changes as needed.  We will most likely be launching a forum on the site to counter these problems in the future.
